I have never hired before what's the routine?
You will need to come in to Osbornes in good time before the event so that you can choose the outfit you require and so that our staff can ensure that you achieve that best possible fit. We will record your details and any accessories you may require and then prepare your order, making any necessary alterations, in readiness for your collection. All garments can be collected up to two days before the event and are cleaned and pressed to perfection in our own Dry Cleaning facility in Ventnor.
How long before the event do I need to book?
For the hire of dinner suits we suggest that one or two weeks before the event you should come and see us to arrange the hire and have a fitting. Around busy times, such as popular local events and school proms, the more time before the date the better. However we will always endeavour to fit you out, should it be necessary, at the last minute. For major events such as weddings we advise you start arranging the hire sooner rather than later. (Anything up to six months before so that you can have plenty of time to make that all important choice and arrange all the fittings). This also ensures that you have the widest range of garments available to you for your big day.
Do we need to make an appointment?
We operate an open door policy as it is very difficult to schedule appointments, especially for wedding hire, as we don't want to put a time limit on choosing the right outfit for your big day. Do we bring everyone with us when we want to choose try on and choose outfits?
We suggest that you limit the number when you come to choose your outfits, if you bring a large group of various family members and friends there tends to be too many points of view. Once you have made a decision, everyone else can come in and try on what you've chosen for them to wear.
What should I wear for different occasions?
Consult our formal dress guide if you are unsure. There you will find a dress guide to some of the major events of the social season and a glossary of terms. If you are still in doubt staff in store will be glad to assist you.
Should I hire or should I buy?
For Dinner Suits it depends on how many times a year that you would use the garment. Roughly speaking you would need to wear it eight times to be cost effective. But bear in mind that your measurements do have a habit of changing. In the case of wedding hire the vast majority of people hire their outfits.
